What is SKU on products and where does it come from?

What is SKU?

SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit and is a unique code or key used to keep track of the product and its inventory. This SKU number is also used to track the product across systems and can therefore be used to reconcile the product on the webshop, the warehouse, and the accounting system.

Creation of Products

When a product is created, it should therefore be assigned a unique SKU number so it can be identified by this unique code and not by the name, which can often change.

An SKU can be assigned based on your own rules or via an SKU generator that automatically assigns a code.
