What is an integration?

An integration is the term for two systems that need to communicate and exchange data. This could, for example, be a webshop that wants to send new orders to the accounting system or product data between a webshop and a PIM system.

This connection between these two systems is called an integration.

A more concrete example could be an integration between WooCommerce and Business Central. WooCommerce is the webshop that wants to transfer new orders to the accounting system Business Central. Business Central wants to transfer prices and master data on products back to the webshop.

Integrations can thus be between many systems, and PIM is the central component and the "glue" between it all. Data transferred can include customers, orders, inventory, and product data.
